GANGTOK,: Sikkim kicked off their 2021 domestic season with a 10-wicket win over Mizoram in a rain-curtailed Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match at Chennai.
Chasing 47 in five overs at Sri Ramachandra Medical College ground, Sikkim snuck home with eight balls to spare.
After wet outfield delayed the start by nearly two hours, Sikkim decided to bowl first.
Pratik Desai forced a powerful start, smashing a six early in the first over but he fell in the first over itself in his attempt to take a quick single.
Mizoram captain K.B. Pawan (27 runs off 13 balls) was the main contributor as the side finished at 47 for 3.
Sikkim went past the total in 3.4 overs without any loss of wicket. Anureet Singh scored 28 runs off 12 balls and Varun Sood scored 21 off 10 balls. Anureet and Varun had also grabbed a wicket apiece.
This is the first ever win in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Sikkim since they participated in senior level of domestic cricket tournament in 2018
It took them three years and 13 matches to record their first win in the T20 domestic championship.
Sikkim will be playing a total of five matches in the group stage. Their next encounter will be with Bihar on January 13.
