Sikkim to develop infrastructures on Sarnath land

SE Report
GANGTOK: Ecclesiastical Affairs minister Sonam Lama on Sunday inspected the plot of land at Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh belonging to the Ecclesiastical department. The land was endowed to Sikkim decades back during the Chogyal’s regime and has been under controversy following encroachments from various quarters including nearby foreign missions.
During the inspection, minister Lama was accompanied by the local district officials, who visited the entire length and breadth of the land. He interacted and discussed with the officials on the Sikkim government’s intention to develop the property into a well-equipped infrastructure to benefit the Sikkimese people and sought the local administration as well as the UP State government‘s cooperation, a press release informs.
Earlier on Saturday, the minister inspected the existing Sikkim Temple House at Bodh Gaya. The Temple House was constructed when the present Chief Minister P.S. Tamang was the Ecclesiastical Affairs minister during 1990s. The officials informed minister Lama of the dilapidated state of the physical structure of the building that calls for early renovation of the entire structure as well as newer structures at the vacant plot of land adjacent to the existing building.
The minister also attended the ongoing 37th Kagyu Moenlam at Bodh Gaya on the sidelines of his visit to the town.
