Six from Sikkim for Junior National Athletics meet


NAMCHI,: A coordination meeting to discuss on various upcoming events under Sports department in South Sikkim was held on Tuesday at the DAC, Namchi.
Sports deputy director (south) Tshering Ongmu Bhutia, Sports additional director Basant Pradhan and Sports officials of all BACs of south district were present in the meeting.
The Sports deputy director spoke about the two main sports event to be organised at block-level this month. She asked the block-level Sports officials to carry out the activities as per the guidelines and directives from the Sports department head-office.
The first event is on February 9 under the banner of Sports Talent Hunt. Five promising boys and girls each between the age group of 7 years to 12 years would be selected at the block-level event. They will represent their respective blocks in the district-level Sports Talent Hunt to be held in Namchi indoor stadium on February 15.
The other major event under ‘Khelo India Peace and Development Scheme’ is ‘f1st inter-school Olympic Games 2020-21’. It would be organised in all the eight blocks of south district from February 18 to 22 in eight sports disciplines. Boys and girls in the age group of 14 years to 17 years will compete in their respective categories. Those selected from the block-level will participate at the district-level meet and then progress to the State and national rounds.
Documentation of all the sports events should be done, urged the Sports deputy director.
