SDF’s bandh call is a total failure: Golay
NAMCHI,: Chief Minister P.S. Golay, also the SKM president, was the chief guest for the 11th SKM foundation day celebration at Assangthang helipad, Namchi on Saturday.

The SKM celebrated its foundation day at constituency-level across the State. The Assangthang event was for Namchi-Singithang and Poklok-Kamrang constituencies which also had participation of party workers from Zoom-Salghari constituency.

The celebration started with lighting of ceremonial lamp and a cake cutting followed by a welcome speech by MLA Sunita Gajmer.

In his address, Chief Minister’s political secretary Jacob Khaling condemned the action of opposition SDF of torching the Chief Minister’s effigy during its dharna at Gangtok yesterday.

Khaling stated that the 48-hour bandh called by the SDF was a desperate act to gain political mileage and to mislead the people of Sikkim. He criticized the past SDF government on many fronts including the present row over the foreigner tag on Sikkimese Nepali community.

In his address, the Chief Minister maintained that the mistakes committed by the past SDF government of 25 years are being heaped on the SKM government. Within six months, our government will correct all the mistakes made by the previous government, he said.

Golay said the Sikkim bandh called by the SDF was a total failure as people of Sikkim are in favour of the SKM government. Despite the bandh called by SDF, Sikkim is open today, he said. He also announced to resolve the identity crises being faced by the Sikkimese Nepali community.

The Chief Minister spoke about cases of the past through which the issue could have been resolved then itself if the past Pawan Chamling government was honest. He accused the past SDF government of creating a rift among different communities of Sikkim.

Golay assured the gathering of fulfilling the tasks left incomplete by the SDF government. He mentioned that the AOSS petition was filed in 2013 during the SDF government while only one hearing was done during the SKM government. He informed about his meeting with the JAC representatives and shared that a review petition has been filed by the State government in the Supreme Court.

The Centre is also with the people of Sikkim on this, said Golay.

In his address, the Chief Minister spoke about the facilities and schemes to be provided by the SKM government including construction of 10 houses in every ward. He stated that he will do party politics from now on and whoever supports SKM will get benefits from the government. I will work as the party president more than a Chief Minister, he said. The SKM does not follow ‘parivarbad’ like Chamling who used to give benefits to his family only, he said.

If burning of my effigy will do well for the public of Sikkim then I am happy to burn myself, said Golay. He urged the SKM supporters and members to work together for the betterment of Sikkim.
