SSB IG on inspection visit of Gangtok sector

GANGTOK,: S. Bandopadhyay, inspector general of SSB Frontier, Siliguri, arrived at SSB Sector Headquarters, at Marchak, East Sikkim today for his annual inspection visit of SSB Gangtok Sector. On his arrival, the inspector general was welcomed by Gangtok Sector deputy inspector general B.K. Pal and officers with traditional khada, informs a press release.
A ceremonial guard of honour was presented to the IG by the troops.
Pal briefed the IG on the deployment of battalions, border out posts and actual situation of the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders and the civic action programmes being conducted by SSB for the border populace.
It is pertinent to mention here that three battalions of SSB are deployed on Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders of Sikkim under the command of Gangtok Sector Headquarters.
SSB is also undertaking various social welfare and developmental programmes for youths, farmers and common people residing in the border areas such as skill development, farmer training, leadership development programmes, sports activities and micro infrastructure development programmes in the border villages under its civic action programme.
Regular free medical and veterinary services are being provided by SSB to the villagers in their area of responsibility.
Bandopadhyay addressed the troops and officers in a Sainik Sammelan held at the Sector Headquarters. He took first-hand information about the difficulties and problems faced by the troops and instructed officers for redresses.
During the Sainik Sammelan, B.K. Pal was decorated with ‘Utkrisht Seva Padak’, awarded by Government of India, by Bandopadhyay, the release mentions.
