SSB jawan tests Covid positive

GANGTOK: A SSB jawan posted in Yuksam, West Sikkim has tested positive for coronavirus taking the State’s active Covid-19 tally to 36.
In his daily health bulletin on Friday, State Health director general-cum-secretary Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia informed that the SSB jawan has been placed in the isolation ward of STNM hospital here. The test results which came yesterday showed that the person tested positive for Covid-19, he said.
The 33-year-old had entered Sikkim on June 24 after undertaking the quarantine period in the SSB facility centre in Siliguri. He then reported to the SSB camp at Yuksam.
Dr. Bhutia informed the SSB jawan was staying in the quarantine centre set up by the SSB at its Yuksam base. There were 40 other persons in the SSB centre and all of them tested negative.
They will be tested again after seven days and meanwhile, the whole SSB centre at Yuksam has been declared as a containment area, said Dr. Bhutia.
The total number of admitted Covid-19 patients in Sikkim is 36.
Yuksam is close to the Indo-Nepal border which is manned by the SSB.
