GANGTOK: Sikkim has recorded two more coronavirus-related casualties which takes the State’s Covid death count to 98. Both the deceased persons had comorbidities and hailed from Namchi area in South Sikkim, as per the Saturday evening health bulletin.
The first death was of a 65-year-old male patient from Sorok Shyampani, Namchi. He was found infected with coronavirus at Namchi hospital on November 17. The same day he was referred to STNM Hospital in Gangtok where he passed away on Friday, informed the health bulletin.
The second death was of another 65-year-old male patient, a Namchi resident. He had been admitted at Namchi hospital on November 19 due to some medical complications. His sample tested Covid positive and was referred to STNM Hospital where he passed away on Saturday morning at around 7 am, said health bulletin.
Meanwhile, 59 new Covid positive cases were reported from the 318 samples tested on Friday in the State. Among them, 43 cases were tested in east district while south district reported 14 cases and west district reported two cases.
In east district, most of the cases are from in and around Gangtok with the Tadong stretch alone reporting around nine cases. Two persons from Development Area and Sichey also tested Covid positive along one person each from MG Marg, Burtuk, Arithang and Bypass.
Two persons who tested Covid positive could not be reached on their given phone numbers by the Health department. One is 63-year-old female from 5th Mile, Tadong while the other is an 18-year-old male from Lall Bazaar.
In south district, Covid positive cases were reported from Namchi, Rabongla, Kamrang, Kewzing, Melli Kerabari, Singhithang and other areas.
The State’s active Covid tally is 289 while recoveries stand at 4218. The total Covid figure of Sikkim is 4691.
