GANGTOK: Former national referee Chamchuk Lama on Saturday morning gave a special session to the young footballers undergoing the winter coaching camp here at Paljor Stadium.
Lama sensitized the trainees on the basic rules and norms governing football including the new rules introduced by FIFA. The aim was to help the upcoming footballers while playing the game at advanced levels in future.
“It is a really good initiative. The players will be highly benefitted through such sessions as it is important for them to know and implement the updated rules in the pitch. This can definitely reduce arguments between the referees and the players which is common in Sikkim. If such sessions are held regularly then football will improve technically as well in Sikkim,” expressed Lama.
The session is an initiative of Doniv Rai, OSD in Sports department to maintain a cordial relationship between the players and the referees. It was also to keep the players updated with the new rules and norms related to the football.
Speaking on the on-going winter coaching camp organised by State Sports department for the kids, Sports department deputy director Milan Singh shared that the camp so far is going on smoothly. The strength of the camp is good and the participants, especially U-13 and U-15 are extremely talented and we are confident that they will shine in future, he said.
Singh added that sports-related camps are necessary as it helps the children to develop physically and mentally. They will automatically be good in studies, disciplined and will adapt a healthy and positive lifestyle, he added.
The month long camp had commenced on January 5 with the participants from 8 to 15 years of age. The children are given basic tactical skills under experienced and licensed coaches.
