GANGTOK,: Amar Subba, popularly known as the Marathon Man of Sikkim along with
his student PritamRai, successfully completed a 132-km Health Awareness Cum
Gratitude Run from Darap, West Sikkim, to Darjeeling More, Siliguri on July 18.
The
run was organised to promote health awareness and express gratitude to the
Chief Minister of Sikkim for his continued support towards health, sports,
tourism, music, and other sectors contributing to the State’s development,
informed Amar Subba.
The
journey began on 17 July at 4:00 a.m. from Darap, covering 70 km to Darjeeling,
where the runners were warmly received by ViKrun Foundation and Offtrack
Movement. The following morning at 7:00 a.m., the second leg of the run was
flagged off from Chowrasta, Darjeeling, with JatinChettri, an Assistant
Sub-Inspector with the West Bengal Police and a student of Amar Subba, joining
the team.
The
trio completed the remaining 62 km to Darjeeling More, Siliguri, reaching their
destination at around 4:30 p.m. The initiative received enthusiastic support
from several running communities, including the Kurseong Athletics Club and the
Tindharia Runners Association, who welcomed and encouraged the runners along
the route.
The
successful completion of the run highlighted the importance of fitness,
community participation, and the power of sport in spreading positive social
messages, said Amar Subba.
