BAS executive inducted as core committee member for India Open 2026

GANGTOK, : Sukanta Das, general secretary of the Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS) and executive member of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), has been inducted as a Core Committee Member of the Organising Committee of BAI & BWF YONEX SUNRISE India Open 2026, a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event.

India will be hosting the YONEX SUNRISE India Open 2026, a HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament is scheduled to be held from 13th to 18th January at New Delhi, marking one of the biggest and most significant events in the global badminton calendar, a BAS press release informs.

The nomination has been made by Badminton Association of India president Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in recognition of Sukanta Das’s unwavering commitment, administrative excellence, and long-standing contribution to the growth and development of badminton at both the State and national levels. As a Core Committee Member, he will play a crucial role in planning, coordination, and the successful execution of this mega international event, the release mentions.

“This achievement is not only a matter of great pride for the Badminton Association of Sikkim but also a moment of honour for the entire state. It reflects the growing recognition of Sikkim’s contribution to Indian badminton and its increasing presence in national and international sports administration.”

The BAS congratulated Sukanta Das on this well-deserved recognition and extended best wishes for his continued success. BAS is confident that his experience and leadership will significantly contribute to the flawless conduct and grand success of the India Open 2026, the association said.
