BAS gen secy Sukanta Das appointed to 2026 BWF World Championships organizing committee

GANGTOK,: Badminton Association of Sikkim (BAS) general secretarySukanta Dashas been nominated as a core committee member of the organizing committee for BWF World Championships 2026, to be held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, from August 17 to 23.

India is set to host the BWF World Championships, regarded as the "World Cup of Badminton", after 17 years. Organized by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), it is one of the sport's most prestigious tournaments, second only to the Olympics in terms of global recognition and importance, informs a press release.

BAS said the nomination of Sukanta Das to the core committee is a testament of “outstanding contribution to badminton administration, his exemplary leadership, unwavering hard work, sincerity, dedicated service, organizational capabilities, and extensive experience in successfully managing national and international badminton events.”

As a core committee member, Sukanta Das will be entrusted with key responsibilities relating to strategic planning, operational management, coordination with various functional committees, liaison with international stakeholders, and the flawless execution of the championship in accordance with the world-class standards prescribed by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

“The Badminton Association of Sikkim considers this a proud achievement not only for Mr. Sukanta Das but also for the entire State of Sikkim. Under the visionary leadership of president Jacob Rai, BAS has continued to make significant contributions to the growth of badminton, and this prestigious appointment further reflects the Association's increasing role in Indian badminton.”

The BASalso thanked the Badminton Association of India for reposing its confidence in Sukanta Das and wished him every success in contributing to the successful hosting of one of the biggest sporting events in the world.
