GANGTOK, : Sikkim U-15 boys’ team left for Jabalpur Thursday to participate in the Dr. B.C. Roy National Football Championship. The team consists of talented young players from across Sikkim, informs a Sikkim Football Association release.
The Dr. B.C. Roy National Football Championship will take place from September 24 to October 8. The tournament will see 21 teams divided into four groups with the group winners progressing to the semi-finals
Sikkim has been placed in Group D alongside host State Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Andaman & Nicobar and Arunachal Pradesh.
Sikkim will start their campaign against Uttarakhand on September 25.
SFA president Menla Ethenpa extended his best wishes to the Sikkim squad. He emphasized the significance of sportsmanship and the positive impact of sports on young minds.
“The SFA is proud to represent the rich footballing talent of Sikkim on the national stage. The Dr. B.C. Roy Tournament is renowned as the most prestigious competition in India for the U-15 age group, serving as a platform for selecting talent for the Indian National Team. The SFA wishes the U-15 team the best of luck and hopes they make Sikkim proud by showcasing their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship during the championship,” the release adds.
