GANGTOK,: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista visited the landslide-hit areas of Darjeeling
region including the worst-affected Mirik subdivision on Sunday.
Among
all the places impacted by disaster, Mirik sub-division has been most severely
impacted, with 11 deaths confirmed so far. The Dudhey Bridge that connects
Mirik valley to Siliguri has been shut down for traffic. A large number of
homes have been damaged, some completely and some partially along the Dudhey,
Panighatta, Pankhabari belt.
In
a press statement, Bista said that he is in constant touch with the Home
Minister, Home Ministry Officials, and the Prime Minister's Office. The
devastation in our region is being monitored at the highest level, and the
Central Government will be providing all possible help to assist the victims,
he said.
“In
this time of crisis, I salute and thank all the first responders. The youths
from our region, community members, volunteers, police and administrative
officials, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) jawans who are working
tirelessly for search and rescue, and disaster response. It is because of their
collective and selfless dedicated services that many lives have been saved,”
said the Darjeeling MP.
Bista
extended his heartfelt condolences with the families of those, who have died in
this tragedy.
“During
this natural disaster, we will work with all our strength to ensure aid reaches
the affected people. I also call upon all our alliance partners and other political
and social organizations to coordinate efforts in rescue and relief operations
so that we can provide timely assistance to the victims,” he said.
