Broadening the horizons of young minds

Dear Editor,

In an inspiring and forward-thinking initiative, the Sikkim Youth Convention 2023 was organised by the local NGO 'Voice,' with an overarching theme that resonates deeply with the aspirations of our youth - 'Revolutionising Young Minds.' This two-day programme, held under the esteemed patronage of the Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri PS Golay and his spouse Madam Smt. Krishna Rai, is a testament to the commitment of Sikkim's leadership towards empowering and nurturing the potential of its young generation.

The event was graced by the presence of distinguished individuals who have left indelible imprints in their respective fields. Dr. Vikas Divyakriti, the visionary founder and director of Drishti IAS coaching, brought his invaluable insights to the platform. Jawaharlal Nehru University's erudite Professor and Sikkim's Chief Economic Advisor, Prof (Dr.) Mahendra P Lama, added a profound dimension to the discussions.

Khan Sir, the pioneering force behind the Khan GS Coaching institute, also shared his wisdom, offering a unique perspective on educational advancement. The event further welcomed a diverse array of speakers from universities, accomplished academicians, and diligent bureaucrats, collectively forming a kaleidoscope of knowledge and experience.

The topics explored during this gathering were both relevant and far-reaching, encompassing vital subjects such as startups, education, the role of women in society, and the pressing concern of drug abuse. These discussions were not merely dialogues; they were seeds of change, sowing the promise of a brighter and more progressive Sikkim.

In this convention, the youth of Sikkim found a platform where their voices were heard and respected. It was a celebration of innovation, a cultivation of ideas, and a profound testament to the commitment of the state's leadership to nurturing and empowering its young minds. The Sikkim Youth Convention of 2023 will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the path of progress and transformation for the state.

The gracious patronage of Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri PS Golay and Smt. Krishna Rai has set a remarkable precedent in Sikkim's educational landscape. For the very first time, the state has welcomed an illustrious gathering of national-level speakers. This initiative holds a profound significance, for it is not merely an event but a transformative journey for the young students of Sikkim.

The objective of this endeavour is to open windows of opportunity and broaden the horizons of young minds. In a rapidly evolving world, it is imperative that our students are not only well-versed in traditional education but are also acquainted with new trends and global perspectives. It is here that the value of introducing them to national educators becomes evident.

Education is no longer confined to textbooks and classrooms; it is a dynamic process that continually adapts to the ever-changing landscape of knowledge and innovation. National educators bring with them a wealth of experience and insights that go beyond the conventional curriculum. Their teachings encompass the latest advancements in various fields, innovative pedagogies, and most importantly, the power of aspiration.

By introducing young minds to these national educators, we empower them to think beyond boundaries and embrace a holistic view of the world. They gain exposure to new ideas, diverse cultures, and fresh approaches to problem-solving. This exposure is essential for their holistic development, as it nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and a sense of global citizenship.

In an age where the world is interconnected as never before, Sikkim's commitment to introducing its youth to national educators is an investment in the future. It paves the way for well-rounded individuals who are not only academically proficient but also possess the adaptability and broad-mindedness needed to thrive in an increasingly globalized society.

This pioneering effort stands as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path towards a brighter and more enlightened tomorrow. The holistic development of young minds through exposure to new trends in education is not just a choice; it's a necessity. The heartening support of Hon'ble CM Shri PS Golay and Smt. Krishna Rai is a testament to Sikkim's dedication to shaping a generation that can not only keep pace with change but also lead it.
