CAP Sikkim says attack on opposition is direct assault on democracy

GANGTOK, : Citizen Action Party (CAP) Sikkim on Tuesday held an emergency meeting at its IBM Rangpo office which was chaired by party president Ganesh Rai. Leaders from various councils of the party and members of different councils were actively present at the meeting, a CAP Sikkim release informs.

The meeting, considering the brutal, cowardly, and premeditated attack on Drivers' Council president Ashish Rai as a direct assault on democracy, human rights, and citizen security, has strongly condemned the incident. Stating that such a grave incident has created a significant challenge to the peace and harmony of Sikkim, the party has interpreted it as a crime committed against the entire society, the release states.

Regarding the press statement issued yesterday by the SKM party, CAP Sikkim has considered it a repeated drama like "being both the priest and the witch oneself." Such efforts to protect the culprits, divert the incident, and mislead the public can no longer be tolerated, said the party.

Since this government came into power, such violence has increased; in a democracy, the opposition should not be seen as enemies but rather as the third perspective, said the CAP Sikkim.

CAP Sikkim president Ganesh Rai, mentioning that the party always has full faith in legal procedures and the judicial system, said that the party is confident that by tomorrow (Wednesday), Sikkim Police will identify the culprits and proceed with the investigation. If not, the party warned that it will be compelled to take to the streets on behalf of the people. CAP cannot remain silent when there is tampering with the security of citizens, the release states.

“If the law does not speak, now the people will. We are in the field against injustice,” said the CAP Sikkim.
