GANGTOK, : The training programme for enumerators and supervisors for the first phase of Census 2027 in Gangtok district, which commenced on March 30, successfully concluded on Saturday.
A press release informs that the training sessions were conducted simultaneously at the District Administrative Centre (DAC) conference hall, DAC Traffic hall, and the Gangtok District ZillaPanchayatconference hall. The programme focused on equipping field functionaries with essential knowledge and practical skills required for the upcoming House Listing and Housing Census.
During the sessions, the enumerators and supervisors were comprehensively briefed on their roles and responsibilities, legal provisions, and the rights associated with their duties. Key technical aspects such as numbering of buildings and census houses, along with the preparation of layout maps, were also covered.
Hands-on training was provided on the operation of the HLO mobile application for house listing and housing census data collection. A mock exercise simulating real-time enumeration was conducted to familiarise participants with field procedures and digital data entry processes.
Trainers emphasised the importance of data security, confidentiality, and validation mechanisms to ensure the reliability of collected information.
The participants were encouraged to apply the knowledge gained during the training with diligence and accuracy in the field. Interactive sessions were also held, allowing participants to clarify queries and enhance their preparedness.
Additionally, training programmes for enumerators and supervisors under Gangtok Urban Charge at DAC Gangtok, and Singtam Nagar Panchayat under Rabdang Urban Charge at the Singtam Nagar Panchayat Hall, were successfully completed earlier on April 8.
In a significant initiative to promote self-enumeration, Upper Burtuk MLA Kala Rai, undertook self-enumeration, encouraging public participation and highlighting the importance of citizen involvement in the Census process at DistrictAdminstrative Centre, Gangtok, the release mentions.
Furthermore, a self-enumeration drive under the ongoing Digital Census 2027 was carried out from at the District Administrative Centre, Gangtok. The initiative witnessed active participation from the District Collector (DC), Additional District Collectors (ADCs), Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), and officials and staff of DAC Gangtok.
Officials from the ADC Development Office, Rural Development Department (RDD), Singtam Nagar Panchayat, and Block Administrative Centres (BACs) across all five blocks of Gangtok district also participated in the exercise. Enumerators and supervisors (Rural), attending the training sessions, took part in self-enumeration to gain practical exposure and reinforce the importance of timely and accurate data submission.
The initiative reflects the commitment of the District Administration Gangtok towards ensuring preparedness and promoting self-enumeration for smooth and efficient Census operations. Participants were further encouraged to spread awareness and motivate citizens to adopt self-enumeration as a convenient and reliable method.
The District Administration Gangtok appealed to all citizens of Sikkim to actively cooperate with enumerators and supervisors during the first phase of the Digital Census, scheduled from 16th April to 17th May.
