GANGTOK,: The Citizen Animal Shelter, a non-governmental organization, on Sunday held a rally at Gangtok to advocate for animal welfare and raise awareness about the importance of compassionate treatment for animals.

The rally began at Zero Point and proceeded to MG Marg, conveying messages about the significance of non-violence and highlighting issues related to street animals. The event featured informative speeches, interactive sessions, and opportunities to connect with others who are passionate about animal rights.

“Recently, a street dog was shot dead at Kazi Road. This event aims to support animal rights, raise awareness about the challenges animals face, and advocate for policies or actions that improve their well-being. By working together, we can significantly impact the lives of numerous animals, which is a crucial and meaningful cause,” said animal activist Sagar Singh.

Stray dogs are frequently observed in many neighbourhoods, wandering the streets in search of food and shelter. These animals face a variety of challenges, including health problems, traffic hazards, and severe weather conditions.

The Citizen Animal Shelter strives to assist stray animals to the best of its ability, providing shelter and treatment to the strays. This animal welfare rally aims to raise public awareness, promote compassionate treatment of animals, and inspire positive changes for their protection and well-being, said the organisers.
