CM attends Amitabha School’s 10th year celebratory event

GANGTOK, November 13: Amitabha School marked its 10th anniversary with a special celebratory event “Lightlogue - A Decadal Journey of Radiance” at Manan Kendra here today.

The event was attended by Chief Minister P.S. Golay as the chief guest. The Chief Minister was accompanied by his spouse Krishna Rai, who joined him in the celebration as proud parents.

In his address, the Chief Minister congratulated the Amitabha School for its achievements and growth over the years. Your journey is a source of pride and happiness for the entire community of Sikkim, he stated.

The Chief Minister commended the students for their confident, creative, and graceful performances across various art forms at the event. He shared that it was a moment of immense joy and pride to watch his daughter perform on stage alongside her friends, seniors, and juniors.

The programme showcased the talents of the students through various performances, including dances, musical performance, a fashion show and skit.

The first was a fierce dance invoking the energy of the Goddess Kali, performed by 4th and 6th graders. This is followed by adorable dances by the playgroup and nursery kids. Then the teachers Pooja Gurung and Sahil Rai performed a classical dance. After that, there was a costume showcase by the young students, highlighting the various milestones of human civilization.

The programme continued with grade 4 girls performing a traditional Tibetan dance, which was followed by a skit, titled “Once upon a door to Amitabha”. Then a Nepali dance was performed by the junior kindergarten. The event also saw a taekwondo demonstration by the school’s taekwondo team. There was another dance performance, a salsa, by the senior kindergarten students. Another skit, titled “Social Media - A Double Edged Sword” was played by the 2nd to 6th graders, which also had a Nepali cultural dance and a Nepali song incorporated within it. Then the boys of grade 5-6 performed an energetic khukuri dance. This concluded the first half of the concert.

The second half opened with two group songs performed by the young students. A string of cultural dances followed, including Tamang dance, a South Indian and ballet fusion dance, a Punjabi dance and another Nepali dance, with the young performers keeping up their energies. The final dance of the concert was performed by the Amitabha dance club, which was a classical to hip-hop dance. A special dance performance by Sankalp Gupta closed off the concert.

The director-founder of Amitabha School, Pema Dolkar Thakarpa, expressed her gratitude and happiness for the success of the concert.
