CM launches NPHCE initiative to promote elderly healthcare in Sikkim

GANGTOK, (IPR): The National Programme for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE) was launched by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang in the presence of Health Minister GT Dhungel at Mintokgang here today.

The program aims to promote active and healthy ageing by providing affordable, high-quality healthcare services for senior citizens and retired individuals.

Key initiatives include the establishment of 20-bedded geriatric wards at STNM Hospital and 10-bedded wards in all District Hospitals, specialized OPDs, and the distribution of mobility aids like spectacles, hearing aids, and wheelchairs.

The program also focuses on training healthcare professionals in geriatric care, organizing health camps, and offering home-based care and tele-consultation services. Community awareness and caregiver training are integral to fostering healthy ageing.

This initiative ensures a holistic approach to addressing the needs of Sikkim’s elderly and retired population lead healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives, shared the Chief Minister.
