Darjeeling celebrates Dalai Lama’s 90th birth anniversary

Darjeeling, : The 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birth anniversary was celebrated here with much fervour here at the Gorkha Ranga Manch on Sunday.

Organized jointly by the Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society (ITFS) andthe Tibetan community, the program saw people from different socialorganizations also attending it.

“In the world over the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness DalaiLama is being celebrated with one such program also being held here atthe Gorkha Ranga Manch to mark the event,” said ITFS general secretary G.T. Bhutia.

Prayers were held at Mahakal Mandir for world peace,brotherhood, harmony, compassion, love in the world along with thelong life of Dalai Lama in the morning. This was followed by theprogram at Gorkha Ranga Manch where cakes were cut to wish thespiritual leader. Felicitation was also done of people for theirsocial contribution along with cultural dances also held.

Gorkhaland Territorial Administration chief executive Anit Thapawho was also present in the program said, “He is not only followed bythe Tibetan community but a dharma guru for all and is respected byeveryone. If we are only able to follow the message of peace that isgiven by him then I feel we can move forward and progress.”

“I could have done something good in my previous life that I couldcome and attend this program today along with cutting the cake for hisbirth anniversary. I follow His Holiness Dalai Lama as there is a deepmeaning in his messages. We should not only follow him but histeachings also,” said Thapa.
