Father-daughter duo wins medals for Sikkim at National Taekwondo Poomsae Championship

GANGTOK,: Sikkim's father-daughter duo, Grand Master Trilok Subba and his daughter Miss Adwayti Subba, brought laurels to the State by winning a gold and a silver medal, respectively, at the 5th National Taekwondo Poomsae Championship 2026 held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium, Pune, Maharashtra, from July 8 to 11.

Grand Master Trilok Subba, an 8th Dan Black Belt, clinched the gold medal in the Senior Men's Under-60 Individual Poomsae category. He secured the title after defeating competitors representing India Taekwondo, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Odisha and West Bengal.

His daughter, Miss Adwayti Subba, a 3rd Dan Black Belt, won the silver medal in the Senior Women's Under-30 Individual Poomsae event. She advanced through bouts against participants from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Manipur, Chhattisgarh, Puducherry and Uttar Pradesh before finishing runner-up after losing the final to her opponent from Arunachal Pradesh.

Expressing his happiness over their achievement, Grand Master Trilok Subba said, “We are delighted to have won one gold and one silver medal for our State, Sikkim, at the National Championship. This championship also served as the first selection trial for the forthcoming World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship, which will be held in September 2026 in South Korea.”
