GANGTOK, :
The Gangtok district officials, line department officials and other key
stakeholders involved in disaster management and emergency response attended an
orientation and coordination conference conducted via video conference by
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) today.
The conference focused on Incident
Response System (IRS) activities, Tabletop Exercises (TTEx) and mock exercises
to enhance disaster preparedness and response, informs a press release.
The primary objective of the meeting was
to discuss the initial plans and conduct upcoming mock exercises aimed at
testing and improving the readiness of all involved stakeholders.
The IRS framework emphasizes the
efficient mobilization and utilization of resources and information during
disasters. Key activities discussed included timely situation assessments,
effective information dissemination, seamless resource mobilization, and clear
assignment of responsibilities among different agencies.
The NDMA has directed district
administrations to plan and execute both mock exercises and tabletop exercises.
These exercises will simulate various disaster scenarios at critical
infrastructure locations to ensure a high level of preparedness.
During the meeting, the district
collectors provided updates on their preparations and plans for the upcoming
mock drills.
It was announced that the Tabletop
Exercise will be conducted on September 10, followed by a district-wide mock
drill exercise on September 12. These exercises aim to enhance coordination
among agencies and ensure a swift, effective response in real disaster
situations, the release adds.
