Governor engages with local community members of Pakyong district

PAKYONG, (IPR): In a significant step towards grassroots engagement and developmental assessment, the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, embarked on a one-day tour of Pakyong District today. The visit was aimed at reviewing local developmental initiatives, interacting with community members, and evaluating government projects in progress.

Accompanying the Governor were the Minister for Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Raju Basnett; District Collector of Pakyong, Rohan Agwane; Superintendent of Police, Dhan Maya Subba; ADC (Headquarter) GL Meena; and ADC Pakyong, Sangay Gyatso Bhutia.

The Governor began his tour at Chota Singtam in the Aho-Yangtam area, where he visited the farmland of progressive farmer Dhanpati Sapkota.

During his interaction with Sapkota, the Governor took keen interest in the methods and innovations being adopted in local agriculture. He acknowledged the farmer’s efforts and conveyed his best wishes, emphasising the importance of sustainable and self-reliant farming practices in strengthening rural economies.

Continuing his tour, the Governor visited the tailoring unit operated by the Sanskriti Self-Help Group (SHG) and the pickle-making unit of the Agrani SHG. Both units showcased a range of locally made organic products and handicrafts.

The Governor engaged with the SHG members, commending their dedication to self-sustenance and women empowerment. He also provided constructive suggestions to further enhance their socio-economic conditions and encouraged them to play a vital role in community-led development.

The final leg of the visit saw the Governor inspecting the construction site of the upcoming District Administrative Centre Complex. He assessed the pace of construction and reviewed its planned infrastructure and functionality. He emphasised the importance of timely completion and optimal design to ensure efficient public service delivery.

The one-day tour served as a continual focus on rural upliftment, grassroots innovation, and infrastructure development aimed at empowering the people of Pakyong district.
