Harvest Festival concludes at Lum

MANGAN,  (IPR): The SOSA Kurtot Harvesting Festival, organised by the SOSA Kurtot Celebration Committee (SKCC) at Lum, Lower Dzongu, concluded today.

The concluding programme was graced by the Prince of Sikkim, PaldenGyurmedNamgyal, as the chief guest, accompanied by Princess Hope LeezumNamgyalTobden.

The event began with traditional ritual prayers, followed by a welcome address by SOSA president SonamTshering Lepcha.

Addressing the gathering, Prince PaldenGyurmedNamgyal remarked on the importance of the occasion, stating that such festivals are vital for the preservation of culture and serve as a source of inspiration for the younger generation. Emphasising the cultural significance of the region, he observed that while MayalLyang represents the body, Dzongu symbolises the heart, noting that the area has successfully safeguarded the rich Lepcha heritage.

He further briefed the gathering about the documentary “The Oath,” informing that the film has been completed and its trailer has already been unveiled.

The programme further featured traditional sports events, followed by cultural performances that highlighted the vibrant traditions of the region.

The festival concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the SDM Dzongu-cum-chief patron of SOSA Kurtot, Gidon Lepcha.

Among others present were OSD (Land & Revenue) UgenTshering Lepcha and OSD (Food & Civil Supply) TashiThendup Lepcha.
