Homely accommodation for Sikkim patients in Siliguri CM inaugurates ‘AmakoGodh’ Su-swasthyaNiwas

SILIGURI, : Sikkim patients coming to Siliguri for health treatment can now stay in a homely atmosphere at ‘AmakoGodh’ Su-swasthyaNiwas at Champasari, Siliguri.

Chief Minister PS Golay on Friday morning inaugurated the health-logistic support facility, a three-storied rental building, where patients from Sikkim can be assisted with accommodation and food free of cost during their stay in Siliguri for treatment.

This facility aims to assist patients from Sikkim undergoing treatment in Siliguri hospitals by providing a comfortable and well-equipped stay. Earlier the patients and their attendants had to stay in private hotels.

Gareeb Jan KalyanPrakostha (GJKP), an organization working in the healthcare sector will manage the rental building until the permanent building comes up at SNT premises of Siliguri.

“The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring citizens receive essential support during medical treatment away from home. The facility is expected to ease the burden on patients and their families by offering a secure and supportive environment. Plans are already in place to expand and upgrade the facility, reinforcing the government’s dedication to improving healthcare accessibility for Sikkim residents”, said Golay.

The building has three floors and is located about 300 meters from Champasari Mode. It has 11 rooms with twin-sharing arrangements and can accommodate around 20 to 24 families. This facility will serve as a temporary solution until the Sikkim government completes the construction of a dedicated patient accommodation centre in Siliguri.

The Chief Minister added that the funds allocated for the entire project including operation, medicine cost, rent of the building food for patients and their attendants will be met by GJKP, the funds which have been sponsored by various party workers and well-wishers.

The Chief Minister said that the entire project including management will be monitored by his son PrabhakarGolay, who is also the GJKP chief patron, and GJKP team.

The rent of the building is Rs. 65,000 per month, and this will be the temporary shelter for the patients and their attendants.

“The new building is coming up in SNT premises and the project will be initiated soon in a much bigger way where patients can avail all support and facility in much easier way,” said the Chief Minister.

GJKP chief patron PrabhakarGolay, who was also present in the inaugural ceremony,expressed that he will follow his father’s steps for the well-being of the society and people in large.
