Gangtok,: Author Dr. Satyadeep S Chhetri’s newly translated book ‘Kissagram: A Novella & Other Stories’ will be launched with a panel discussion at the Jaipur Literature Festival on January 18.
‘Kissagram: A Novella & Other Stories’ is a translation from a Hindi Novella and seven short stories written by the noted author Prabhat Ranjan. The book has been published by Bee Books, Kolkata, a press release informs.
‘Kissagram’ had won the Kalinga Award (Hindi) in 2024. It is probably the first book that an author from this region will have an opportunity to launch his book at the Jaipur Literature Festival, often referred as the Mecca of Lit fests in India.
The Jaipur Literature Festival is being organized from January 15 to 19.
‘Kissagram: A Novella & Other Stories’ brings together forgotten lives and unfinished truths from the fictional place of Sitapuri, located at the Indo-Nepal border. There are stories of a vanished wrestler, a vandalized temple, a created narrative to build a new temple, a bridge that was never built, and a translator trapped by a single fatal error. These quietly powerful stories capture ordinary people and fragile moments, revealing how absence, chance, and small mistakes can alter lives forever.
After the success of his debut novel ‘Gorkhaland Diaries’ in 2022 and second book ‘Sikkim: from Autocracy to Half Democracy’ in 2023, this would be Dr. Chhetri’s third book to be released after three years.
Recently a book chapter ‘Shared Borderlands: The Indian Gorkha’s quest for identity in India’ written by Dr. Chhetri was published in a book ‘Shared Bonds, Strategic Interests: India-Nepal Relations in Turbulent Times’ edited by Ambassador Ranjit Rae and published by Simon and Schuster in December, 2025.
The launch of ‘Kissagram’ in Gangtok and adjoining places of Siliguri, Darjeeling and Kalimpong would soon be held as per the communiqué received from him.
