Local youth installs public library in Chisopani

GANGTOK,: A new public library was inaugurated in Chisopani, South Sikkim on Thursday in the presence of Urban Development minister and area MLA Bhoj Raj Rai. The library named Rashmi Library Chisopani was established by local youth Chetish Chettri in honor of his mother Rashmi.

During the inauguration, minister Bhoj Raj Rai commended Chettri for his dedication and hard work in setting up the library, despite facing many challenges. He emphasized that education is the only thing that "cannot go useless" and will always benefit individuals.

Rai also pointed out the growing trend of the younger generation spending more time on mobile phones than reading books. In this context, he praised Chettri’s efforts as especially commendable because, while many focus on personal interests, Chettri took the initiative to serve society.

The minister urged local students to make full use of the library's resources and called on the community to protect and maintain the library for future generations.

Chetish Chettri, the founder of the library, expressed his happiness and pride as his dream project came to life after more than five years of hard work. He shared his deep passion for books, which inspired him to create a place for others to share this love.

Chettri thanked various book lovers from Sikkim and beyond who supported his vision. He also expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister PS Golay and his spouse Krishna Kumari Rai for their encouragement and assistance.

The Rashmi Library Chisopani is designed to cater to a wide range of users, from primary school students to PhD-level scholars. It aims to foster a culture of reading and learning in the community, offering a valuable resource to those who seek knowledge.

Bhanu Puraskar recipient Thiru Prasad Nepal, who also addressed the gathering as a special guest, praised Chettri for his initiative, calling it an exemplary effort.

Nepal highlighted the importance of such positive actions, especially in an era where many young people are distracted and confused, often turning to mobile phones instead of books. He emphasized that Chettri’s library sends a powerful message of hope and positivity to the youth.

The inauguration ceremony was also followed by the annual function of the Himalayan Grace Academy where the students presented various activities, followed by a prize distribution programme.
