GANGTOK,:
National Cadet Corps (NCC) director general Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh called
on Governor Om Prakash Mathur at Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday.
During
the meeting, the NCC director general apprised the Governor about the status of
NCC in the nation and the State of Sikkim, informs a Raj Bhawan release.
In
response the Governor said, "Sikkim being a border State, expansion of NCC
is necessary. We need take a new approach to motivate the youth of Sikkim to
join in NCC. It is a great platform for the holistic development of young
people and that its growth will help them become more disciplined and capable
leaders while also enhancing their contribution to the development of the
country. NCC will be very good for the personal and social development of
Sikkim's youth.”
Additionally,
the Governor appealed Sikkim's youth to join NCC, stating that it would greatly
benefit in their social and personal growth and development of the State.
During
the call on, Lt. Gen. Singh also brought up a number of concerns about the State’s
NCC and sought the Governor's assistance to strengthen the NCC in Himalayan State.
He mentioned that the primary concern is the establishment of a separate group headquarter
within the State.
Sikkim
and West Bengal currently share a group headquarter.
Further,
he stressed for incentives for employment and career advancement in Sikkim,
similar to what other States offer for passing the NCC exam.
In
addition, he discussed the establishment of an NCC academy in Sikkim with the
goal of training approximately 500 cadets from all across the country.
The
Director General expressed the NCC’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and
providing facilities in Sikkim to empower the youth of Sikkim and promoting
their role in nation building.
