GANGTOK, (IPR): North East Regional Centre- Indian Council of Historical Research (NERC-ICHR) Guwahati, in collaboration with Sikkim University kick started their two-day national seminar on the Indian Constitution and the idea of Ram-Raj at Chintan Bhawan, this morning.
The programme was graced by Dr Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Vice Chancellor and Professor at Sikkim University and chief guest, Dr Balmukund Pandey.
The seminar was also attended by author, editor and keynote speaker Prafulla Ketkar, and special guest, Professor Himanshu Kumar Chaturvedi, member of ICHR. Also in attendance were scholars from different States of India and faculty members and students of various colleges of Sikkim.
‘Ram Raj’, a concept rooted in ancient Indian philosophy, symbolizes the ideal governance envisioned by the Constitution of India. It embodies the principles of justice, equality, and welfare, as enshrined in the Preamble. Striving for a ‘Ram Raj’ means to reaffirm the commitment to upholding values and ideals of the Indian Constitution.
The main themes that are going to be discussed in the two-day seminar are the making of the Indian Constitution, illustrations in the original copy, philosophical traditions reflected in ‘Bharatiya’ texts, values enshrined in the Constitution with special reference to cultural continuity, understanding Ram Raj through the eyes of youth, Ram Raj of Gandhi, Ram Raj as embodiment of cultural continuity, defining Ram Raj in ‘dharm’, and distinguishing it through theological rules based on religion.
The seminar held a host of discussions in correlation to the theme of Ram Raj.
Ami Kishore Ganatra, Professor Ujjwala Chakardeo, Laxman Raj Singh Markam, Professor Nidhi Chaturvedi and Dr Raktim Pather attended as expert speakers at the event.
Earlier, the welcome speech was given by Professor Veenu Pant, and the vote of thanks was administered by Registrar of Sikkim University, Laxuman Sharma.
