GANGTOK, : Sikkim footballer
PhurbaLachenpa has been named in the provisional 23-man squadfor India senior
team camp which got underway in Kolkata today.
The Indian football team will
train in Kolkata for five days before travelling to Imphal where they will play
the Tri-Nation International Football Tournament, at KhumanLampak Stadium from
March 22 to 28, with Myanmar and Kyrgyz Republic being the two opponents.
The 25-year-old goalie hails
from Lachen, North Sikkim and is currently playing for ISL club Mumbai City FC.
He started his professional career with ShillongLajong in 2016.
While speaking to SIKKIM
EXPRESS, Phurba expressed, “It’s a surreal feeling to be a part of the Indian
national team and first Sikkimese goalkeeper to be part of national team.It’s a
proud moment for me and my family but this is just a small step towards my
ultimate dream, I have a lot of aspirations.”
