Press Club election on June 7

GANGTOK, : The Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) on Sunday announced that elections for the new executive committee will be held on June 7.

The PCS annual general meeting (AMG) held on Sunday dissolved the current executive body, paving the way for fresh elections.

The AGM also approved the formation of a three-member Election Committee under the chairmanship of Puran Tamang to oversee the conduct of the polls. Additional members will be inducted into the panel to ensure free and fair elections, it said.

According to the press release, the last date for renewal of membership is May 30, while the electoral roll will be published on June 1.

At the AGM, outgoing general secretary Dilli Ram Dulal presented the annual report, highlighting the club’s activities over the past year, while treasurer Jaganath Dahal placed the income and expenditure statement.

During the meeting, members raised several issues concerning the functioning of the Press Club as well as challenges faced by journalists in the field and on the technical front.

Addressing the gathering, outgoing president Bhim Rawat stressed the need for active participation of members in the upcoming electoral process.

The AGM concluded with a call for members to complete their membership renewal within the stipulated deadline to ensure their inclusion in the electoral roll and participation in the elections.
