Prime drug peddler Subijan Subba arrested from Bagdogra

NAMCHI, : Sikkim Police arrested Subijan Subba, the prime accused in drug peddling and distribution across Sikkim, from Bagdogra in West Bengal late last night. 

Subba, 33, a resident of Bagdogra and a permanent resident of Aambotey Chisopani in Namchi district, was caught by a special police team led by Jorethang SDPO Mingyur T. Nadik. The team included Jorethang SHO Umesh Pradhan, Melli SHO Kishore Chettri, PI Bhisan Rai and PI Monish Gurung.

According to senior SP Karma Gyamtso Bhutia, Subba has several past cases against him, some of which are still under trial. His arrest is expected to significantly reduce the supply and distribution of narcotics in Sikkim.

Subba is the main source behind a recent seizure of 815 grams of heroin and is believed to be responsible for nearly 80% of drug trafficking in the State including substances like brown sugar and heroin.

He has been booked under Section 111 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with organized crime under SADA and NDPS laws. The police are continuing their investigation to identify and arrest others involved in his network.

Authorities also revealed that Subba holds accounts in multiple banks with transactions amounting to crores. These accounts may be frozen if links to illegal activities are confirmed.

SSP Bhutia also warned that if juveniles are found to be involved in Subba’s network, they will be dealt with according to the law.

Subijan Subba is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
