Primula, Pretika earn North East Zone call-up; Kikam named coach

GANGTOK, : Sikkim duo Primula Chettri and Pretika Chettri have been included in the North East Zone squad for the upcoming Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal One Day Trophy, which begins on March 5 in Bengaluru.

The 15-member squad was finalised at a meeting of the North East Zonal Selection Committee in Guwahati on February 13.

All-rounder Primula earned her call-up on the back of a standout campaign in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy (Plate), where she impressed with both bat and ball for Sikkim senior women’s team. 

Batter Pretika also secured her place after a series of assured performances this season. As well as contributing crucial runs, she was noted for her sharp work in the field.

There was further recognition for Sikkim with Kikam Bhutia appointed head coach of the North East Zone women’s team. Kikam, the first woman from the North East to clear BCCI Level B coaching exam, is a regular presence in zonal and national assignments.

The Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal One Day Trophy will be held in Bengaluru, with the facilities at the BCCI Centre of Excellence being used for the games.

The tournament features six teams, viz. Central Zone, East Zone, North Zone, North East Zone, South Zone and West Zone.

The competition will follow a round-robin format, with each team playing at least five matches. The top two teams at the end of the league stage will advance to the final, scheduled for March 15.
