Rain wreaks havoc in Pakyong district

PAKYONG,: The heavy rain and storm of Friday disrupted normal life and damaged standing crops in many parts of Pakyong district.
Roads were blocked after trees fell owing to strong winds and rain and electricity cut-off besides damaging agricultural crops.
Pakyong collector Tashi Chophel Lepcha informed that the concerned departmental officers and staff have been deputed to different places to access the damages caused by the storm.  
Electricity has been cut-off since Friday evening and is yet to be restored at Namcheybong, Pakyong and other places.  
At Namcheybong, Lalturning-Basilakha road, Pakyong-Pricklakha road and Pakyong PHC-Basilakha road were blocked due to fallen trees before they were cleared this morning by local public and department staff.
Many greenhouses were also damaged where people had cultivated flowers and vegetables.
Also crops were damaged in different rural areas.
