GANGTOK, : In a significant milestone for Sikkim’s spice industry, Phurba Tshering Lepcha, deputy director of the Spices Board (Ministry of Commerce & Industry) Regional Office, Gangtok, conducted sampling of Dalle Khorsani (Cherry Pepper) at IPH’s processing unit of Mevider in Melli, South Sikkim.
The samples are sent for being tested at the Spices Board's Quality Evaluation Laboratory (QEL) in Kolkata for issue of certificate for exporting the consignment, a press release from the Spices Board informs on Thursday.
This marks the first time such sampling for spice has been done in Sikkim for export purposes. At the request of the exporter due to logistical issues, sampling has been done at Sikkim, informed the Spices Board.
This is the second consignment of Dalle Khorsani, with the first sampling having been done in Kolkata.
The consignment is set to be exported to Honiara, Solomon Islands, Zimbabwe, marking a significant step in promoting Sikkim's agricultural products globally. This development is expected to boost the local economy and create new opportunities for farmers and exporters, added the Spices Board.
