GANGTOK,: The Senior Women’s Football League 2026 kicked off at Paljor
Stadium here on Tuesday with all the six participating teams featuring in the
three games of the day. Altogether 20 goals were scored on the opening day.
In
the inaugural match, Gangtok Himalayan SC cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory
over Darjeeling XI with the goal scorers being Signoria Thapa, Sujahangma
Limboo, and Ongden Lepcha.
Sports
secretary Yangchen D Tamang was the chief guest for the opening match which was
also witnessed by Shyari MLA Tenzing Lamtha, the founder of Gangtok Himalayan
SC.
Samjana
Rai from Gangtok Himalayan SC was declared the player of the match.
The
second game saw Chujanchen Sports Academy registering a 2-0 victory over Milan
More Football Academy (Siliguri) with the goals coming from Prashna Gurung and
Sushamma Rai.
Chujachen’s
Kusum Chettri received the player of the match award.
The
day’s third match saw Singling SC (Soreng district) routing Northerners FC
(Mangan district) 15-0.
Kiran
Pist led the goal-fest with four goals followed by a hattrick each from Simran
Gurung and Pranita Limboo. Karishma Rai and Sukriya Mangar scored a brace each
while Preyanka Mangar scored one goal.
Pranita
Limboo won the ‘player of the match’ award.
Sikkim
Football Association president Menla Ethenpa and officials were present
throughout the three matches.
The
league is organised by Sikkim Football Association with Generali Central
Insurance Company as the title sponsor.
The
six teams will face each other in the league stage with the top four advancing
to the semi-final round. All the matches will be played at Paljor Stadium with
the final scheduled on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day.
The
tournament winner will receive a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh while the runners up
will take home a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. There is a cash prize of Rs. 10,000
for the ‘woman of the tournament’ besides the ‘woman of the match’ receiving
Rs. 5,000 at every game.
