GANGTOK, : The Sikkim Hotel and Restaurant Association (SHRA), represented by
its president Shradha Sharma and treasurer CA Yash Marda, participated in the
GST Grievance Redressal Committee Meeting held at Mayfair, Gangtok on Friday.
During
the meeting, the SHRA delegation submitted a detailed memorandum suggesting
practical and positive measures to enhance GST compliance, registration, and
revenue generation from hotels and restaurants operating across Sikkim, a press
release informs.
Speaking
at the meeting, the SHRA president emphasized that its role extends beyond
addressing grievances. “We see ourselves as partners in progress, working
alongside the government to ensure a transparent, efficient, and thriving
hospitality sector,” said Sharma.
The
memorandum includes suggestions on leveraging technology, simplifying
registration, encouraging voluntary compliance, data-driven monitoring, and
rewarding GST-compliant establishments. It also proposes simplified GST
registration drives and public awareness initiatives to promote responsible
tourism and tax discipline.
Marda
added, “We want to convey that SHRA is committed to being a conduit between
stakeholders and the government—raising genuine issues but also contributing
policy and revenue oriented solutions that benefit both the State’s revenue and
its tourism economy.”
The
SHRA team expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage meaningfully and
reaffirmed their commitment to supporting both the hospitality industry’s
growth and the State’s fiscal goals, the release mentions.
