Sikkim among seven states to receive Jal Jeevan Mission grant

GANGTOK,: The Jal Shakti Ministry has approved Rs. 465 crore as a performance incentive grant to seven States including Sikkim on Saturday. The Himalayan State along with Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh have qualified for the incentive grant for 2020-21 under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) - Har Ghar Jal to provide assured tap water supply to every rural home by 2024.
It is for the first time that five Northeast States have qualified for the performance incentive grants. They have been successful in swiftly implementing JJM despite several geographical issues. The criteria for the grants included physical and financial progress, the functionality of piped water supply schemes and the capacity to utilise the fund.
Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat approved the amount for the performance incentive to these States.
Chief Minister of Sikkim P.S. Golay said it is as a proud moment for the State and urged all to continue with the same spirit and achieve all the goals in the coming days. He also expressed his gratitude to all the individuals who were involved in initiating the mission in the State.
