S. GHOSH MAJUMDAR

Honouring a voice that inspires and empowers

As Sikkim Express approaches its Golden Jubilee celebration on the 15th of April, it stands as a remarkable testament to fifty years of dedicated journalism, integrity, and service to society. This milestone marks not just the years gone by, but the enduring trust the newspaper has earned over the decades.

Completing fifty years is not merely about durationit reflects consistency of purpose, strength of values, and an unwavering commitment to truth. In todays fast-changing media landscape, where questions of bias and influence often arise, Sikkim Express has carved a distinct identity for itself. It stands as a publication that upholds balance, fairness, and responsible reporting.

What truly sets this newspaper apart is its spirit of openness. It goes beyond reporting newsit creates a space where individuals are encouraged to write, to express, and to share their perspectives freely. In nurturing such an environment, it has empowered voices from all walks of life, fostering thoughtful dialogue and strengthening the fabric of society.

I feel deeply honoured to have been invited as a guest for this momentous occasion. While I regret that I will not be able to be physically present due to prior commitments out of station, I consider it a privilege to be associated with this celebration in spirit and to share my thoughts ahead of the event.

My association with Sikkim Express has been both long and meaningfulspanning ten years as a columnist, and even before that, as a dedicated reader. This journey has allowed me to witness closely the publications ethos, its openness to diverse voices, and its encouragement to individuals to articulate their thoughts with clarity and confidence.

The Editor, along with the entire team, deserves heartfelt appreciation for this achievement. Their vision, perseverance, and commitment have ensured that the newspaper remains both relevant and respected over the decades. Upholding journalistic values while encouraging inclusivity is no small feat, and Sikkim Express has managed this balance with admirable consistency.

The upcoming celebration, to be graced by the Honble Chief Minister as the Chief Guest, reflects the significance of this milestonenot only for the publication but also for the community it has served so diligently.

As this esteemed newspaper prepares to celebrate fifty glorious years, I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes. May Sikkim Express continue to inspire, inform, and uphold the truth in the years to come, carrying forward its proud legacy with the same dedication and spirit.

Even from a distance, I join in spirit to celebrate this remarkable journeyone that stands as a shining example of responsible and meaningful journalism.
