Sikkim Governor lays foundation stone for new school in Rajasthan village in memory of parents

GANGTOK,: Governor Om Prakash Mathur on Friday laid the foundation stone of a new school building in his native village Bedal in Pali district of Rajasthan.

The proposed institution, Late Smt Sajjan Kanwar Chandrajji Mathur Adarsh Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, is being run by Adarsh Shiksha Sansthan, Bali, and is affiliated with Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan.

The ceremony began with a ceremonial puja accompanied by Vedic chanting near the Baleshwar Mahadev Temple. The state-of-the-art school is being constructed in memory of the Governor’s parents, Late Sajjan Kanwar and Late Chandraj Ji Mathur. The construction cost will be borne by the Mathur family, informs a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, Mathur became emotional while recalling his parents and said his native village remained a source of inspiration for him. He said his roots were deeply connected to the village and that setting up an educational institution in the name of his parents was a matter of pride for the Mathur family.

The Governor said children were the future of the nation and stressed the need for value-based and quality education to help them become responsible citizens. He expressed confidence that the institution would play a significant role in shaping young minds and contributing to the overall development of the region.

He emphasized that the progress of any society and nation cannot be achieved through material development alone, but through value-based and quality education. He stated that this modern educational facility, being developed under the aegis of Vidya Bharati, would nurture students from rural areas with both academic excellence and strong patriotic values, enabling them to become responsible citizens of the nation.

The Governor further said the decision to set up the institution was his desire to carry forward the values and ideals imparted by his parents.

Rashtriya Mantri of Vidya Bharati Shiv Prasad, who attended the programme as keynote speaker, lauded the philanthropic effort of the Mathur family, saying it would benefit future generations and promote education in the region.

Members of the managing committee of Adarsh Vidya Mandir Bedal, representatives of social and political organisations, administrative officials and general public of Bedal and adjoining areas attended the event.
