GANGTOK, : Sikkim LokSabha MP Indra Hang Subba has voiced strong support for the
continuation of the Dalai Lama institution. Speaking on the occasion of 14th
Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday in Gangtok, the LokSabha MP stated that the presence
of the Tibetan spiritual leader in India is a profound blessing.
“At
a time when the world is grappling with uncertainty, disorder, and wars
erupting across continents, the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in
India is a profound blessing for all Indians,” Indra Hang said.
Reaffirming
his belief in the continuation of the Dalai Lama institution, Indra Hang added,
“India and Sikkim in particular has always stood firmly in support of His
Holiness and his decisions. Our people continue to respect and support the path
he chooses. Personally, I fully support his recent statement and reaffirm my
belief in the continuation of the institution of the Dalai Lama. This
institution must endure so that the message of peace, compassion, and human
values can continue to guide humanity toward a better future.”
Extending
heartfelt wishes on behalf of the people of Sikkim, the MP said, “I wish for
peace, love, and compassion to prevail in every corner of the world. May the
teachings and values that His Holiness has been spreading globally one day
bring about lasting peace and prosperity across all societies and human
civilization.”
The
birthday celebration, held in Gangtok, was organized by the Tibetan Settlement
Office and the Tibetan community of Gangtok. It was attended by several
dignitaries including Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker MingmaNorbu Sherpa,
Director General of Police AkshaySachdeva, and Syari MLA TenzingLamtha.
DGP
AkshaySachdeva, also speaking at the event, termed the day “deeply significant
for all of humanity.” He described the Dalai Lama as “an epitome of love, compassion,
peace, and friendship whose message resonates across all nations, cultures, and
communities.”
“In
today’s world, where there is so much unnecessary conflict be it among
religions, between nations, or even based on race, His Holiness reminds us that
humanity is one. We all come from the same root, and there must be compassion
and love among all sentient beings,” Sachdeva said.
Referring
to 2025 as the Year of Compassion, the DGP added, “It is an appropriate time
for reflection. We must reinforce the idea that wars often born out of hatred
and inflated egos only bring devastation and suffering. Let us all take this
opportunity to embrace and spread the message of peace, unity, and friendship.”
