Sikkim to celebrate first-ever Aama Samman Diwas on Aug 10

Over 32,000 mothers to be honoured under Aama Sasaktikaran Yojana

GANGTOK, : As envisioned and directed by Chief Minister PS Golay, August 10 has been declared as Aama Samman Diwas, to be observed every year, beginning this year.

“This historic initiative, launched on the eve of 8th Jan Unmukti Diwas is a tribute to the selfless sacrifices, hard work and love of mothers across Sikkim. It reflects the leadership’s unwavering respect and genuine intentions toward real women empowerment, further adding to the legacy of progressive welfare schemes under the SKM government,” said the SKM in a media statement Wednesday.

The ruling front shared about the benefits to be extended to the Aamas of Sikkim on this August 10.

More than 32,000 Aamas will be felicitated under the Sikkim Aama Sasaktikaran Yojana, with the disbursement of the first installment of financial assistance cheques.

Over 4,200 Aamas will benefit under the Sikkim Aama Sahayog Yojana, which provides financial assistance for four LPG gas cylinder refills annually.

The SKM informed that a total of 210 Aamas from the grassroots level, selected across various categories from all districts, will be specially invited and honoured at the State-level event.

They include 15 Best Amma Hospital Safai Mitra from STNM Hospital and all district hospitals; 30 Best Amma ASHA Workers, 5 from each district; 30 Best Amma Aaganwadi workers, 5 from each district; 30 Best Amma SHG Workers, selected by the office of OSD to CM; 15 Best Amma Safai Mitras from GMC, SNP, MNP, NJNP, NMC, and GNP; 30 Best Amma Panchayat representatives, former or present; 30 Best Amma PWD workers, 5 from each district; and 30 Best Amma Mid-Day Meal Cooks, 5 from each district.

“These honours are not only symbolic recognitions but also a genuine gesture of appreciation towards the tireless service and contribution of our mothers in various sectors from healthcare and sanitation to education, nutrition and rural development,” said SKM press & publicity wing president Ranjana Pradhan.

The Aama Samman Diwas stands as a shining example of people centric governance and a model of inclusive growth under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), which is most unique and noble initiative in the country itself, added Pradhan in the media statement.
