GANGTOK,: Dynamic Flickers Dance Academy (DFD) of Sikkim, winner of the state-level Golden Feet dance competition, is set to represent India at the International Ethnic Folklore Festival in Vietnam from October 6 to 11.
The festival, being held under the theme “Let’s Dance for World Peace,” is an international cultural platform that brings together traditional and folk dance groups from different countries. The event is an initiative associated with UNESCO.
DFD will represent India by showcasing traditional dances and the rich cultural heritage of Sikkim through its performances.
Expressing excitement over the opportunity, Dilu Tamang, Co-founder of Dynamic Flickers Dance Academy, said the participation would provide the academy with a platform to take Sikkim’s culture to an international audience.
“We are excited to inform that this is an opportunity for us to showcase our culture through dance,” Tamang said.
She further informed that the academy is utilising the prize money it received after winning the Golden Feet state-level dance competition to meet the expenses of participating in the international festival.
“We are really grateful to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for conceptualising a competition like Golden Feet. We had won a cash prize of Rs 30 lakh, and we are using that winning amount to travel for this international festival,” she said.
Dynamic Flickers Dance Academy has previously represented Sikkim at national-level competitions and won the National Tribal Dance Competition in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, in 2022. The academy also received the Best Dance Academy Award in 2023.
The Vietnam festival is expected to provide DFD with an opportunity to showcase Sikkim’s traditional dance forms and cultural identity on an international platform.
Representing DFD at the festival will be Passang Sherpa, Dilu Tamang, Tshering Sherpa, Nim Dorjee Bhutia, Raman Tamang, Bidhya Subba and Tara Devi Subba.
