GANGTOK,: Romen Subba, a budding football talent from Lokendra Football
Academy, has been officially selected for Minerva Academy, the nation’s most
prominent football academy, based in Chandigarh.
Romen
Subba hails from Chota Samdong Arobotey, Soreng district, and is among talented
students undergoing football development at Lokendra Football Academy,
Sombaria, established by former footballer Lokendra Gurung.
Seeing
his potential, Lokendra reached out to Minerva Academy to secure a trial for
the u-17 group and escorted Romen to Chandigarh for the trial process. Happy to
share that Romen impressed the Minerva Academy coaches and got selected for
further development and progress in his football journey, said Lokendra on
Saturday.
Lokendra
extended his heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay for
his vision and continuous support towards the development of sports in Sikkim,
especially football. I dedicate this success to the Chief Minister’s vision, he
added.
“Romen
Subba represents the huge football talent pool available in Sikkim. It is our
goal to scout such talents at the grassroots level like Romen Subba, groom
them, and facilitate their entry in elite coaching centres and football clubs
across the nation,” said Lokendra, adding that he was proud to be a part of
this journey and grateful to do this work.
He
also thanked Minerva Academy director Ranjit Bajaj for showing faith and giving
an opportunity to Sikkim football talents to grow and succeed in his elite
football academy.
Lokendra
extended his best wishes to Romen for a bright future ahead at Minerva Academy.
He had established Lokendra Football Academy in 2019, and is actively working towards
nurturing young football talents and providing them with a platform in the
region.
