GANGTOK, : Six players from the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association (SATA) have
recently received black belt Dan certificates from Kukkiwon, South Korea.
Kukkiwon,
also known as the World Taekwondo Headquarters, is located in Seoul, South
Korea. It serves as the official governing organization for Taekwondo and is
the central authority for Taekwondo training, research, and the issuance of Dan
(black belt) certificates.
Ugen
Gurung qualified as a 4th Dan black belt, Adwayti Subba qualified for 3rd Dan,
Sudip Rai for 2nd Dan, Sagar Tamang for 1st Dan, Ismarika Gurung for 1st Poom,
and Reyong Hangman Rai also qualified for 1st Poom.
The
examination was conducted by chief coach and SATA founder, Master Trilok Subba,
under the banner of the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association.
SATA
felicitated the six achievers at a press meet held at the Press Club of Sikkim
(PCS) here on Thursday.
“This
is a big achievement for Sikkim, as Kukkiwon is the official governing
organization for Taekwondo. Black belts also qualify our athletes for national
and international championships, including the Olympics. SATA would like to
congratulate all our athletes on this achievement,” expressed Master Trilok
Subba.
The
executive body also thanked Chief Minister P.S. Golay and his spouse Krishna
Rai for their unwavering support to the association.
The
six achievers expressed their gratitude to SATA and chief coach Trilok Subba
for their guidance and support.
The
executive further informed that SATA, with support from the State Education department,
has introduced a coach certification license, as certain individuals have been
misusing the title of coach. The Education department has
already issued circulars, it was informed.
