SKM to celebrate ‘Jan Unmukti Diwas’ alongside ‘Aama Samman Diwas’

GANGTOK, : ‘Jan Unmukti Diwas’, a significant political event in the calendar of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), observed annually on August 10, will be celebrated in a new format this year.

As per the direction of SKM president and Chief Minister P.S. Golay, the Jan Unmukti Diwas will be observed jointly with ‘Aama Samman Diwas’, SKM general secretary Arun Upreti informed on Wednesday, a party release informs.

The first preparatory meeting for the August 10 celebration was held at Rangpo and chaired by SKM working president Kunga Nima Lepcha. The meeting was attended by ministers, MLAs, and senior party functionaries.

Upreti shared that the party president has directed the integration of both events this year. As part of the celebration, cheques will be distributed under the ‘Sikkim Aama Sashaktikaran Yojana’ and LPG cylinders under the ‘Aama Sahyog Yojana’ will be presented to the mothers, he informed.

Various responsibilities were assigned to party members during the meeting to ensure the successful organisation of the event. The session also featured addresses from SKM chief coordinator Sonam Lama and party spokesperson Jacob Khaling.

The second preparatory meeting is scheduled to be held in the coming days, the release added.
