GANGTOK, : Nirmal Chettri, former Indian international footballer, joined the
ruling SKM during the 15th Rholu Diwas programme on Thursday. He was welcomed
into the SKM by party president and Chief Minister PS Golay in presence of the
Rholu gathering.
Nirmal has
played for elite I-League and ISL clubs during his professional football
career.
It is an
important step and a happy occasion for me to join the SKM today at this holy
place of Rholu where the Parivartan movement had started, said Nirmal in his
joining speech.
Speaking
briefly, Nirmal said he joined the SKM as he was confident on the progressive,
democratic and inclusive values of the PS Golay-led party. We are entering a
Naya Yug under Chief Minister PS Golay that will take Sikkim forward, he said.
He added that under the SKM government, progress has been made in every sector
of Sikkim including sports. He expressed that sports and sportspersons of
Sikkim have been rejuvenated due to the push and support given by the SKM
government.
We can see
Parivartan happening in sports sector and this has driven me to join the SKM
and to work for Sikkim under the leadership and directions of Chief Minister PS
Golay, said Nirmal.
Nirmal
hails from Melli, South Sikkim. He has played for elite I-League and ISL clubs,
and also for the Indian national football team during his professional football
career.
Also
joining the SKM during the programme were motivational speaker Sanjay Rai from
Namchi and Tarku zilla panchayat Durga Prasad Sharma (Bikash Dahal).
“Will keep one whole week for SKM
joining”
In his
address, SKM president and Chief Minister PS Golay said the joining event during
the 15th Rholu Diwas was restricted to the three shining youths of
Sikkim. They are our achievers of Sikkim and I heartily welcome them into the
SKM, he said.
Golay, at
the outset of his Rholu Diwas speech, shared that the SKM party will be
reserving one whole week at the start of New Year 2024 for the mass joining
programme of new members into the SKM.
“Today we
had no joining programme in this historic Rholu Diwas occasion. If we had kept
joining programme today, it would have taken an almost entire day because of
the huge numbers of people from other political parties and recently retired
government employees who want to join the SKM,” said Golay.
Considering
this, we will reserve one entire week for the joining programme series at the
start of New Year 2024 for those retired government employees, our well-wishers
and those from other political parties who want to join our SKM party, said the
SKM president.
