GANGTOK, : State Tourism & Civil Aviation
department held a meeting with the representatives of Border Trade and
Investment Association, Thailand in Gangtok Wednesday to promote the investment
opportunities in Sikkim.
The meeting was chaired by the Tourism principal
secretary C.S. Rao accompanied by secretary Prakash Chettri. The meeting also
had the presence of Commerce & Industries director (MSME) Ravi Kumar and director
(Industries) Karma Sonam Bhutia, Tourism additional secretary Dr. Prerna
Chamling, other officers from Tourism & Civil Aviation department, and president
and members from All India Gorkha Chambers of Commerce, informs a press
release.
The representatives of Border Trade and
Investment Association, Thailand were led by Tharadol Thongruang, Former
Minister Counsellor, Royal Thai Embassy.
Video and PowerPoint presentation on
investment opportunities in the State was presented by the Commerce &
Industries department and Tourism & Civil Aviation department which was
followed by open discussion on various investable projects and opportunities
available in the State such as tourism, agri- horti organic food processing,
phamaceutical, IT & ITes, creation of centre of excellence and AVGC Park, ropeways,
industrial parks, film, sports, entertainment, heli –service amongst other.
The Thai delegates informed the forum
that they were impressed by the scenic beauty of Sikkim, peace, greenery,
cleanliness and warm hospitality of local people with high tourism potential
for the South East Asian countries. They stressed on having more promotion and
publicity of the State in Thailand and other South East Asian countries to
attract more tourists in the near future.
The Tourism secretary expressed his gratitude
to the Thai delegates for taking the initiative to partner with Sikkim for
promoting important sectors like tourism and industries and stressed that such
meetings will stimulate the mutual cooperation and trust in promoting tourism
industry and investment opportunities between Thailand and Sikkim.Â
The principal secretary highlighted the
efforts of the State government in making Sikkim one of the most progressive States
in the country with high priority given to sustainable and eco-friendly tourism
practices, environment, education, culture, women empowerment and health
amongst others. He further informed the delegates about the integrity and warm
hospitality of the Sikkimese people.Â
