GANGTOK,: In the wake of the breach in the road formation at Taram Chu, which has led to the closure of the Chungthang-Lachen road axis, a joint site inspection was conducted to assess the extent of damage and explore the feasibility of restoring traffic movement on Monday.

During the visit, the team conducted a detailed assessment of the damaged stretch and held discussions with officials from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), including the Commander and Officer Commanding of 86 RCC, who are responsible for the maintenance and restoration of the affected road.

The inspection aimed to evaluate the severity of the breach, identify immediate risks, and explore possible measures for early restoration of connectivity along this vital route. Necessary directions were issued to the concerned executing agencies to take prompt and appropriate action for reopening the road at the earliest, subject to safety considerations, informed the Chungthang SDM.

Meanwhile, a coordinated effort was carried out today to clear the thick layer of snow along Lachen- Donkyla- Shiv Mandir axis.
