TNA & TNSSS win Battle of Pipe Bands, to represent Sikkim in zonal competition

GANGTOK, (IPR): The State Level Inter School Band Competition 2025 was held at the school ground of Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok today. The chief guest for the event was Secretary, Education department, Tashi Chophel.

A total of six schools participated in the competition, which featured four Girl Pipe Bands and two Boy Pipe Bands. The participating schools were PM Shri Deorali Girls Senior Secondary School, Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School, Tashi Namgyal Academy, PM Shri Mangan Government Senior Secondary School, Paljor Namgyal Girls Senior Secondary School, and PM Shri Chakung Girls Senior Secondary School.

Addressing the gathering, Tashi Chophel congratulated the students of all six schools for their impressive performances and expressed appreciation, particularly for the schools from Mangan and Chakung for travelling a long distance to participate in the event.

The secretary also offered words of encouragement and caution to the winning teams who will go on to represent the State at the zonal and national levels, reminding them of their greater responsibility in carrying the name of Sikkim forward. In his concluding remarks, he commended the organising committee for successfully conducting the event and hoped to witness the same enthusiasm and dedication in future competitions.

In the results, Tashi Namgyal Academy Girls Pipe Band was adjudged the Best Female School Pipe Band Team, while Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School was declared the Best Male School Pipe Band Team. The winners and participants were awarded trophies, certificates, and cash prizes by the chief guest.

The winning teams will represent Sikkim in the upcoming Zonal competition in Guwahati.

It may be noted that PB Gurung, Sub-Inspector, Sikkim Police Pipe Band, and Abner Darnal, Culture department, Government of Sikkim, served as judges for the competition.

The event also saw the presence of principal director, Education department, Sonam Denzongpa, additional director, Asha Khatri, deputy director-cum-nodal officer, Inter School Band Competition, Pempa Tshering Lepcha, principal-cum-director, Tashi Namgyal Academy, retired brigadier MG Jacob, and officials of the Education department and Samagra Shiksha.
